About Sharon Rogers
I am an educational consultant living in Pasadena, California. Currently I teach as an Adjunct Faculty member in Communication Disorders at California State University Fullerton. Previously, I served as an Assistant Professor in Teacher Education at Claremont Graduate University and as Adjunct Faculty at Pacific Oaks College. I also worked as a consultant and instructor at the Computer Access Center in Santa Monica, California.
My Ph.D. is from Claremont Graduate University in the School of Education. I also have a Masters degree in Speech Pathology from the University of Pittsburgh and a Bachelor's degree from the University of Nebraska. I have a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and am licensed with the California Board of Medical Quality Assurance (Lic. #8802).
Prior to receiving my doctorate, I taught for 15 years in the Pasadena Unified School District. I specialized in working with non-verbal children especially those with autism, cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injury and developmental delays. I was awarded Teacher of the Year at Roosevelt Elementary in Pasadena in 1995.
I have given presentations on my work and research at conferences of the International Society of Augmentative and Alternative Communication, California Speech-Language-Hearing Association, United States Society of Augmentative and Alternative Communication, and the Down Syndrome Association. I also served on the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing from 1996-2001.
I am the author of the forthcoming chapter, "Jefferson's Poetry: Ability and Disability in Indonesian and English" in D. Koppenhaver's From Silence to Poetry: Augmented Communicators Read and Write.
I am also co-author of:
